Happy Labor Day! I hope everyone had a great weekend with family and friends. We had a pretty action packed weekend out here on the island. Unfortunately Justin had to work Saturday and Sunday, but we made up for it Monday, ending the weekend fun with a day at Kailua Beach Park.
Saturday, Lucy and I went for a walk down to Waikiki. While we were there we played at Kapiolani Park then went to the Zoo. We love Kapiolani Park. Why? I don’t know. It’s just a giant open field. It doesn’t even have a play structure. We pass two parks with play structures to get there even! What it does have, is open space for Lucy to run free. That sounded like I was talking about a dog… Oh well… There is plenty of space there so even if there are a lot of people in the park, it still feels like we have the place to ourselves. Also, it’s right next to the Zoo. We have a membership at the Zoo so we are there a lot. They have a play structure and Lucy gets a kick out of seeing the animals. Well, when we were there on Saturday we finally found the Giraffes, whom I was beginning to think did not exist, AND two Elephants waved at Lucy with their trunks! How cool is that!? I’m not entirely sure she understood the coolness factor of this Double Mint Gum quality occurrence, but it was cool to see none the less. THEN, as if it wasn’t already an eventful day, we (I) decided to take a swim at the beach. It was a nice way to end the day and get Lucy super tired.
Fishies! Fishies! Were the name of the game on Sunday. Sunday we hung out with Lisa. Lisa, Lucy and I checked out the Okinawan Festival first. This Festival is a big deal here. Apparently it happens every year on Labor Day weekend. There were already hundreds of people there at 10am when we arrived. Once we found that we couldn’t so much as decipher what was in each tent, we headed straight for the exit and into the Aquarium. The Aquarium is probably Lucy’s favorite place in the world. She really loves “fishies”. They don’t have a whole lot going on in the Waikiki Aquarium. It’s pretty barebones really, but it does the job for a 19 month old. Once we saw all the fish we could handle, we headed home.
Labor Day! So yesterday we went to Kailua Beach Park with our friends Lisa, Nick, Dave and Paul. It is the most beautiful beach park we’ve seen so far. The sand is like flour, the water is extra blue and there are picnic tables and bathrooms which make it the perfect park to spend an entire afternoon. The day was all about relaxation and we got an A+ for accomplishing that. Lucy even took a 2 plus hour nap while we were there! All that relaxing in the sun made for a new lobster like glow to my skin. Yeah, I’m a little crispy…. Oh well!
All in all, this was a great weekend. Lucy got plenty of activity, we spent quality time with our friends and we got plenty of Vitamin D!
Till next time, Aloha!
